Welcome to the team
Fayette County Memorial Hospital is proud to welcome these physicians to our team
of health care professionals:
Dear friends,
Welcome to
the summer
edition of
Health
Notes
. It has been
a very busy and
exciting time at
Fayette County
Memorial Hospital
(FCMH). Recently,
we added a urologist and two family
medicine providers as well as several
nurse practitioners to FCMH Medical
and Surgical Associates.
To accommodate the rapid growth
of our practice, we conducted a reno-
vation and expansion to our physician
suites, adding 26 patient exam rooms
and many updated amenities to im-
prove e"ciency and make our patients
feel as comfortable as possible.
At FCMH we continuously focus
on quality improvement and have
recently begun to utilize the LEAN ap-
proach (see the story at right). We are
#nding that this methodology is very
successful in improving outcomes in
our initial areas of focus. We expect to
see this trend continue with the addi-
tion of #ve certi#ed LEAN practitioners
at FCMH.
You can #nd out more about these
stories and other health and well-
ness news in this issue. We wish you
and your family a happy and healthy
summer.
Sincerely,
Lyndon Christman

fayette health notes
Fayette County Memorial Hospital
(FCMH) recently had "ve employees
receive their LEAN Practitioner Certi"ca-
tion. LEAN is a process-improvement
methodology that assists hospitals in
building a culture that continuously
identi"es and eliminates waste, increases
e#ciency, and supports patient-centered
care. The overall goal is to use the LEAN
set of tools to improve the patient’s
experience.
The key to a successful LEAN project
is utilizing front-line employees—those
who know work processes best. LEAN
allows the front-line employee to focus on
each step of the process and determine
changes that are needed to improve the
outcome of the process.
FCMH has "ve LEAN teams that
consist of front-line employees, and each
is led by a certi"ed LEAN practitioner.
Several of the initial focus areas include:
w
Patient registration
w
Precerti"cation completion
w
Care of the surgical patient
w
Complete blood count (CBC) lab testing
in the Emergency Department
All of the areas have seen improve-
ment since implementation of the
program. One example of this is that the
wait time for CBC results has decreased
from 54.5 minutes to 33 minutes when the
lab test is ordered by the physician for an
Emergency Department patient.
