Ready to quit
smoking?
Fayette County Memorial
Hospital o ers smoking
cessation program
Smoking is the leading preventable
cause of death and disease in the
world today. At Fayette County
Memorial Hospital (FCMH), we
provide a smoking cessation program
to help you quit smoking for good!
Four FCMH sta members,
including Robert Pickering, MD, have
recently become certi ed to teach a
smoking cessation course through
the American Lung Association. As
you will learn throughout the
seven-week course, it has been
determined that the highest success
rate with smoking cessation is
achieved by combining a couple of
smoking cessation therapies, such
as the smoking cessation course
along with nicotine replacement
therapy. We want to provide you
with all the information we can so
that we can help you be successful
with your smoking cessation.
If you quit smoking, your heart
and lungs will work better and your
risk for emphysema, stroke, heart
disease and some forms of cancer
will decrease. You could add years
to your life, and you would no
longer expose others to dangerous
secondhand smoke.

“We restructured our Sleep Lab
when I came to FCMH full-time
back in 2011,” Dr. Pickering says.
“We now work with SleepMed as the
service provider, and the transition
has gone smoothly. By partnering
with SleepMed, we now o er full
service in lab sleep studies with very
exible scheduling. Recently, we
have started o ering in-home sleep
studies as well, when appropriate.
You can be scheduled for in-lab
studies by your primary caregiver
or be seen in my o ce. In-home
studies require an o ce evaluation
to be sure appropriate studies are
performed. If you’re having sleep
problems, we’ll do our best to get
